アメリカに来ています。

さてさてアメリカに来ています。　なんだか今回は時差ぼけがひどくてとにかく眠いです、、、。　　適度にだらだらしながら体調を整えています。

今はオレゴン州のユジーンという所にいます、一昨日に革屋さんを見つけて行ってみましたが正直パッとしない感じでした、しかし日本では見ないようなものが沢山ありましたよ。

で、会計の時にサドル屋さん知ってますか？と聞いたら一人教えてもらえたので今日はそこに遊びに行ってきました！

ケン　コールマンさんという方で甥っ子がロス　コールマンというロデオをやる方でなんだか有名そうでした、その辺はよくわからないのですが。

ケンさんは２０年ほどのキャリアがあるそうでサドルの販売もしているそうですが今は仕事もリタイアして趣味で制作しているようでした。
自分のカービングに興味をもってくれたのでデモをしたんですが貸してくれたスーベルナイフがとにかく切れない、、、。あれはなんだ？プッシュベベラか？？って感じだった。
でもとりあえず仕上げてみた、そしたらその横にサインをしろと言うwww
正直あんなものがこの世に残るのは嫌だ、しかし漢字で名前書いてきましたww
とにかく親切なやさしいおじさんだった。

六月にもう一度会おうと思うのでその時は自分の道具を持って行こうと思います、、、。

そうそう彼の家は剥製が沢山あった、バッファローの頭の剥製はさすがに笑った、あんなでかいもの家に二つもいる？www　　鹿とかもあったしレストア中の車のトランクからはオオカミ出てくるしwww　　で、動物が好きって言ってたwww

ミシンも使わせてくれたけど怖かった、、、、。音がすごいし、、、なんかミシンに殺されるんじゃないかってくらい迫力があった。

彼は車のレストアもするらしい。　サドルのツリーも自作するしチャップスも作っていた、チャップスは素晴らしいものでした、あれは関心したなー。

ギターが置いてあってなぜか歌まで歌ってきたww　そして帽子もらった。

今日は楽しかった！ケンさんありがとう！

I’m in the U.S.!  The jetlag is really bad so I’ve been really sleepy.

I’m in Eugene, Oregon and yesterday we found a leather store out of the blue and I was able to see a lot of things that I’ve never seen in Japan before.

We asked the store employee if she knew any saddle makers and she told us about one and today we went to visit him!

The saddle maker’s name is Ken Coleman.  He was a pretty well-known bull-rider in the area and he started making saddles around 20 years ago.  He’s retired from his job and saddle-making is his hobby, although he does orders for customers. 

He was really interested in my carving and I showed him how I do my carving.  However, his swivel knife wasn’t sharp so it was hard to cut with and it felt like a push beveller.  He then asked me to sign next to my carving and I wrote my name in kanji. 

He is a really, really nice man!  I’ve already promised to visit him again in June after I return to Oregon from my journey. 

He has a lot of awesome antiques at his house.  He had two stuffed buffalo heads… not one, but two!  He also has three cars that he is working on restoring.   His Ford had a coyote in the backseat!  He said he loves animals, haha.

In his workshop, he let me try his huge sewing machine.  The noise alone was very scary and I couldn’t help thinking that it could kill someone while I was using it!

Not only does Ken restore cars, but he also builds his own saddle trees and makes chaps for the nearby rodeo.  His chaps were really beautiful.

In his house, he had a guitar so I ended up playing and singing for him and his wife.  They applauded when I was done, so nice!

Today was a lot of fun.  Thank you, Ken for a really great day!
